It’s about 1 hour from where I live (Lancashire) to the heart of the lakes. (Used to live in it previously)…. Now I have a little bit of land and the thought occurred to me .. 

🤔 would people from the forum fancy camping out in my field and doing some days laning into the lakes and or the dales? 

There are zero facilities in my field though and it’s not like a lawn - but it would be a nice, private, free, safe place to camp. 

I know a lot of you folk live way down south .. so it may be too far. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The main trail was washed out due to heavy rains recently, so we could only do a mild drive to some unused railway tunnels.

In the last time I almost run out of Whisky and therefor I bought new stuff and found some nice ones.

I love the peated Islay Whiskys (my favourite is Oktomore) and stumbled over a peated Speyside, called "Old Ballantruan". A peated Speyside is rare and this one is a really good mixture from Islay and Speyside. The next one I found was "Mister Peat". No age, no distillery mentioned, but really fine. Not expensive ... a good daily driver ...

More recommendations are welcome.

Here’s tonight’s sunset in Silverdale 

We are going again in the Spring, this time intending to stay up / inland for longer and do some good leg stretches. Last time it was a heatwave and it was not possible. Just too dodgy walking in 35+C.

I'm ready and able with Osmand maps so if anyone has any tracks suitable for gentle off-roading, please share if you are willing.

I have to give a bit of context - she is struggling with pretty severe anxiety, so the fact she’s asked for a road trip is a big deal. Issue is that our usual avenue of campsites would be too stressful. 

I could do premier inn type places - it’s easy to be anonymous in one of them, but that would get expensive over a lot of days and need us to know where and when we would be each night.

I did think about a roof top tent - it ticks quite a few of the boxes. Self contained, easy to set up, can use any of those ‘park for the night type places’… not sure if the increased height impacts ferries?, but it’s downsides seem to be that it’s quite expensive again for what may turn out to be one disastrous trip. 

I’ve also pondered putting a platform of sorts in - my 90 has no bulkhead though, so it’s not immediately springing to mind how I’d make that work. I’d also have to think about blocking windows up etc.

Another thought was hammocks ! I’ve seen someone putt a hammock out over the top or a front and back door in a 90.. not sure it that might work with two in there?. Plus side is they are very cheap to try. 

Any thoughts on any of this would be very welcome.

Every year, the National Sea Rescue Institute organises a 4x4 drive into the highly restricted Koeberg Nature Reserve, which helps to raise funds for its operations.

The reserve borders ZA's only nuclear power station, hence this area is unaccessible to the general public, except for this day. The drive through the reserve is done under very strict supervision.

It's only a few hours away from us this year, so planning on checking it out if we can.

We'll be in the campsite somewhere with a range of trucks, from the 127 ambulance to an SVR Range Rover so should be somewhat obvious  none of us have been before so looking forward to it.

I’m thinking a weekend or a long weekend to look at things like Carrickfergus Castle,  Gobbins Head, the Glens of Antrim, the Dark Hedges, Giant’s Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Dunluce Castle, Castlerock Beach

Would anyone else be interested in coming ? Sort of a forum sortie ?

I don’t have a date in mind or even a firm itinerary yet - so just gauging if it might be a shared interest at this point.

We're busy looking into alternative sites so happy to hear any recommendations.
