	This may well be a silly question but anyway....
</p>

<p>
	I have a spare hole in my defender dash to fill and was pondering if an analogue volt gauge gives any help when winching? Its a toy come winch challenge pretender (the rear winch is likely to see the most use dragging new projects onto trailers or bits of recovery) If it is a useful addition would it be best wired from a specific place or simply any 12v feed behind the binnacle?

	I am considering buying a pair of waffle boards. I don't compete or do serious off-roading but in the near future I am likely to need to cross a section of moorland a couple of times per week. This will likely be a round trip of 500m. I don't want to be in a situation of getting stuck so thought a set of waffle boards would be a relatively cheap addition. I have seen a set on ebay for £39 delivered.  These are 38mm thick and 1220x310mm. Before I buy, are there any points of note I need to look for or are they all pretty much the same?

<p>
	Saxon Express is a mixed discipline event, with a scatter, autotest and trial. My last marshal post of the day is a Moreton Ford, late afternoon. It'll be high, so interesting

<p>
	I'm Hill Chief at Underdown and all the marshal's vehicles will be Land Rover's (hence the tenuous link)
</p>

<p>
	Sadly Underdown is lousy for spectators, as we open at 23.35 and close at 05.30, but there are some great spectator hills later in the day (see link)
</p>

<p>
	We are always short of marshal's, more so this year, thanks to the winter plague season. It's fun, but hard work; howevere if you are a car/bike nut, you will fill your boots!

	Like many MSA clubs we're looking at options for 2020 in light of the massive relative increase in permit fees for 2020.<br><br>
	Is your club going to take the hit and increase entry fees for trials or have they looked at alternative options around event insurance ?
</p>

<p>
	Yorkshire Off Road Club have not renewed our MSA membership yet until a decision is taken at the upcoming AGM and I'm a bit surprised that the changes appear to have gone without comment on here.<br><br>
	FWIW we have been investigating the practicality and cost of extending our current insurance to cover our events and running them outside of the MSA and will be presenting the results at our AGM for members to make a decision on.<br><br>
	For anyone that's not aware, the MSA at the end of 2019 announced that permit fees would be more than doubled for our trials events and, in addition, all competitors and passengers would require an MSA license (free) in addition to club membership.

	I Am sure most of us take a look at the Dakar rally at the moment, and fantasising of winning the lottery or something like that in order to have a go yourself.

<p>
	Well, there is another option: The dakar classic. It is a new class that allows people of older cars (20 years min) to come and have a play:

	Hi all, looking for some thoughts, suggestions or guidance on who to speak or where to look for setting up a 300tdi Defender 90 suspension to do the Intercontinental Rally (Old Paris Dakar Route) in Jan 2022.  The base vehicle is a ex military Wolf, internal roll cage, strengthened chassis and axles, some other nice features for this trip so thought it would be a good start. The truck will get a full overhaul, engine out, full tune up, gear and T box out and overhauled and maybe change gear box ratios. Thoughts ?
</p>

<p>
	Re Suspension. My thinking is that large axle articulation is not that relevant for the event but I do need springs and dampers that can handle all day fast punishment driving on desert trails, sand, corrugations etc. Will most probably run with 245/75/16 BFG All Terrains unless anyone else has a view. I'm also wondering whether I should be considering lowering the truck to reduce the centre of gravity and tighten it up a bit and make it less wallowy. Is that sensible or is the compromise on suspension travel too great? Any thoughts on best springs and damper combo? Progressive springs to handle compressions? Bump stops? Dual shocks or external reservoir? We are enthusiastic amateurs rather than full competition as you might have gathered already but, for the challenge of it, we will be entering the race rather than the adventure group. Any thoughts or experience insights most welcome. Thanks.

	As per the title: Croatia trophy is dead. No, not another COVID 19 cancellation, the organisation has send out letters to the people who entered and explained the reasons for this. I haven't read this myself, but Apparently Igor, the main organiser is having health issues, and as a whole Croatia trophy is no more. A shame, as is always was a mainstream event, with many people competing.

	After last years cancellation, it is all change at the Croatia Trophy; There is a new location, but more importantly there is a new class structure.
</p>

<p>
	Apart from the Trophy class and adventure class, there is now also the Legend class; This is a class for production based vehicles.
</p>

<p>
	Space frames and portal axles are not allowed in this class, which is good news for us with land rover based vehicles. It means a more level playing field is created and we don't have to retire our vehicles just yet.
</p>

<p>
	I would have preferred a maximum tyre size as well, but from where they were with no rules at all, this is big step forwards:

	Twice a year we run a challenge event that aims to bring challenge back towards where it started - road legal vehicles, possibly equipped with a winch and a crew doing their best to navigate, cope with whatever terrain they come across and complete special tasks along the way.
</p>

<p>
	The event will consist of over 20 orienteering punches that will be graded into three categories according to their difficulty. Similarly, entries will be divided into three classes based on the vehicle's capabilities and competitors will only be allowed to attempt punches at or below their vehicle class.<br><br>
	The status of this event means that all drivers will need to hold an MSA license (None Race Clubmans) . For those who do not already have a license, please bring a completed form to signing on. We will have some forms available although it's easier and saves time if you can bring them with you. Navigators need only a club membership card unless the crew intend to swap drivers.<br><br>
	The three vehicle classes will be as follows:<br><br>
	Class 1 is for vehicles not fitted with a winch, essentially our normal trials vehicles class.<br>
	Class 2 are vehicles fitted with a single winch.<br>
	Class 3 are vehicles with more than one winch and will also require basic rollover protection.

	Hi, I have a 90 with a North Off Road external cage, this mounts to the side of the chassis, which as I see it, it will not be allowed at ALRC events, comp safari / ccvt. My options are to modify the mounts to make them attach to the top of chassis, or sell the landy and get one that will be suitable for ALRC events.Bearing in mind I live on an Island of the north of scotland so would not be competing on a regular basis, due to cost involved of travel, but its something I want to do. As its safety I dont want to compromise, so maybe the best thing would  be to sell the 90 on and get something more suited to off road competition rules. Thanks Richard.

<div style="margin:0px;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;font-size:15px;">
	The ALRC have been running off road trials events for decades, but have always been rather strict with what modifications have been allowed. But no longer....

<div style="margin:0px;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;font-size:15px;">

</div>

<div style="margin:0px;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;font-size:15px;">
	The new Q Class will allow almost any Land Rover to come and compete.
</div>

<div style="margin:0px;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;font-size:15px;">

</div>

<div style="margin:0px;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;font-size:15px;">

</div>

<div style="margin:0px;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;font-size:15px;">
	If you've not competed before, then there are events and classes to suit all ages, vehicles and abilities.
</div>

<div style="margin:0px;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;font-size:15px;">

</div>

<div style="margin:0px;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;font-size:15px;">
	It's true grassroots motorsport, events costing in the region of £20 a time. Which makes it comparable price to P&amp;P sites.
</div>

<div style="margin:0px;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;font-size:15px;">

</div>

<div style="margin:0px;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;font-size:15px;">
	And here's another angle on it. Trials events need to be setup, many clubs will do this the day prior to the event. So for the cost of annual membership you can potentially get a days off roading without competing. Again another good option to P&amp;P sites.
</div>

<div style="margin:0px;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;font-size:15px;">

</div>

<div style="margin:0px;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;font-size:15px;">

</div>

<div style="margin:0px;padding:0px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:'Open Sans', sans-serif;font-size:15px;">
	So if you have dislocation cones, cranked trailing arms or even a tray back Discovery, why not give trialling a go. It's a lot of fun and challenging and you'll likely learn a lot about driving off road.
