Transfer box capacity

I believe the capacity of the transfer box on my 96 300tdi hicap should be around 2.8l?

When I refilled yesterday, on relatively level ground, I couldn't even get 2l in?

2l is about right.

workshop book says LT230T 2.8litres up to suffix E or 2.3litres from suffix D.

Either way less than 2l went in. Might be a small amount of unlevel but seems unlikely.

Are you shure all came out?

Yes, and there was't very much in there. Having refilled I have found a leak at the front propshaft. It is parked on dirt road, you wouldn't see an oil leak.
