ctrover Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Hi-have a v8 110 with lt95 4 speed-want to drop in some high ratio range rovers gears for better highway speed-any body done this? How easy is it-what besides the 2 new gears should I buy?thanks jim Quote
Steve Hiatt Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 You need the two high range transfer gears from a Range Rover box which are two a penny. Low range gears are the same. By the way your 110 gears are quite sort after by people using an LT95 in racers so don't bin them, they are quite rare. It's a fiddly job to do with the gearbox in, even on a ramp, but possible. ctrover Posted October 6, 2008 Author Posted October 6, 2008 so i'll buy the 2 gears, open the transfer case, pull 2 gears and replace with 2 new ones.No shims or special tools required? Quote
ChrisV8 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Why not stick an overdrive on the back of it ? I run an LT95 with a Fairey overdrive in my Rangie it works fine just happen to have a spare overdrive if interested, was fine when last used, present gearbox came with overdrive attached. Quote
ctrover Posted October 7, 2008 Author Posted October 7, 2008 Im located in the usa and the lt95 overdrives are way too rare and expensive-plus I dont want to incorporate any more slack in the drivetrain-if it breaks im screwed-I can get a couple of RR gears for much cheapere than a OD. Quote
Steve Hiatt Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 There are thrust washers and teardrop washer shims Quote
101sean Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Quite a few 101 owners have done this. Need 3 hands and 18 fingers apparantly to hold all the bits in line over your head but otherwise straightforward. Quote
