alterastro Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Ok so I've folded and am about to buy a custom 90 V8 in addition to my V6 Pajero. Trouble is, its engine is in bits.... So I have several options: 1) Rebuild the existing V8 2) Buy another V8 and swap them 3) Replace with a 200tdi So thoughts and comments much appreciated. Anyone know what kind of mpg and power I can expect from a tdi? Laymans terms would be great does it compare to a 2.5 or 2.8 paj, if you know? Many thanks Nick Quote
Les Henson Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Do you know why the engine is in bits? This is very helpful in determining what you do next. I've had to reassemble an engine, find out what the problem is, then take it apart and fix it - very annoying. Les. Quote

JimAttrill Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Swopping a V8 to a Tdi is not easy. The bell housings and gearbox sppigot shafts are different. And the input shafts are different so you would need to have the gearbox changed. Bettter not to try it unless you have lots of dosh Quote
FridgeFreezer Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I've seen that 90 at a few play days, as well as some of their products - I hope you're not paying much for it some of their engineering is a little on the agricultural side shall we say A dismantled V8 is hardly worth rebuilding if it's a 3.5, you can get a good engine for £150 ish or a whole Range Rover for £300 so you can test-drive it before you buy. MPG wise, in "just pulled out of a rusty disco" form you can expect ~25-30mpg from a 200TDi and ~15mpg from a V8, depending how you drive. Quote
JimAttrill Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 So, either fix the V8 or scrap it. Ohtherwise get the complete engine and gearboxes from an old Disco and go from there. Quote
