I have been looking for a pair of doors for a project.

The requirement is to be light weight, thin and short in height but to still have wind up windows, locks etc.

So, if I got a pair of Defender doors (with rotten bottoms as is the norm) and shortened the height of the door, how short can I make the door without affecting the windows and how far they can wind down?

If it isn't much then I will use shortened Series doors with sliding windows.

Cheers.

Ahhh, so probably very little mechanism below that.

I could probably cut a door a little way below the door handle then.

Good, I'll start looking for a rusty pair on the bay.

Cheers.

further to my reply above, the uppermost blackline on the picture below is about where the top edge of the glass sits when glass is wound down.

the black rectangle below is the approx location of the winder mechcanism,

hth.

I have a couple of doors that may be suitable if it helps. They are complete but the bottom of the frames has gone through in a couple of places.

When the glass is down, the lower edge is approximately 90 to 100 mm above the door bottom - this is based on dimension to lower edge of glass in raised position and subtracting 450 to 460 mm.

The lowest point of the winder mechanism (lowest point on quadrant gear) is approx 200 mm above the door bottom.

Hmmm, so I could cut up to 200mm off and just leave the window partly up.
