do you mean fuel injection pump or the fuel lift pump ?

fuel injection pump on some Auto Discovery IIRC have a EDC unit attached, but possibly it can be removed to leave a manual FIP as in a defender, fuel lift pumps are common.

EDC isnt attached to the pump it is part of the pump, the EDC pump electronically controls timing advance and fuel delivery where as the "normal" VE pump on manual TDi's does it with a govenor similar but more complex to that on old school Beam (think stationary steam) engines. and also advances the timing with fuel pressure.

The simple answer to this is that the EDC pump has no speed control lever at all, just a lead with a multiplug on it.Both have the same stop solenoid.

I have manual and auto injector pumps and the auto pump not compatible with a manual because the auto pump is electrically operated and the manual has no electrics except the stop solenoid
